Stop Sleeping!

The boardwalk is always such a nice place to relax on a sunny day, but don’t get caught sleeping on a bench there, especially in Delaware. Not only is it illegal to sleep on the benches, it’s also illegal to pretend that you’re sleeping.

The full text says “No person shall sleep, lie or occupy as a sleeping quarter, or under the guise of pretending to sleep on the boardwalk, any bench located on the boardwalk in any pavilion located at the end of any street or on any bench located on any street.”

Pretending, really? That sounds a little rash to me. Are there a lot of criminals pretending to be asleep? At that point, does it really matter if you’re asleep or pretending to be? You’re going to look the same either way. So basically, don’t ever close your eyes while you’re sitting on a bench.

I get that they are trying to stop a takeover by homeless people, but I still think it’s funny that they put pretending in the same clause.
