Dominoes When Conditions Are Just Right
In the Alabama Criminal Code, there is one section that is sure to raise a couple of questions. Questions like, “Can a law be that specific?” and “Huh, are dominoes dangerous when mixed with billards outside of carefully controlled environments?” I speak, of course, of section 34-6-12 which goes as follows:
“In counties having populations of not less than 56,500 nor more than 59,000, according to the 1970 or any subsequent federal decennial census, domino games shall be lawful in billiard rooms or other rooms in which billiard tables are located”
It’s a very peculiar law. Apparently dominoes and billiards can only coexist in carefully maintained populations. The specifics are quite humorous, except that it appears that this law is still on the books and might actually be enforced.
