Some recent prowling on this amazing world wide web has turned up the alleged law that unmarried women in Florida are prohibited from parachuting on Sundays.

Most of the wacky law websites out there tell you that it’s illegal for UNmarried women to parachute on Sundays. I did a little investigation, and according to my contact at the SW Florida Skydive Club, it is MARRIED women who are breaking the law by parachuting on Sundays. But, as she succinctly put it, the law is “stupid” and nobody follows it or enforces it.

If you’re inclined to go skydiving in Florida now that you know you’re not going to get in trouble for it, there are a few things that you will have to know. For instance, most places will want you to do a tandem jump, where you’re hooked to someone who really knows what they’re doing. It’s not illegal to let you jump by yourself, but if you’re a beginner they like you to go tandem.

You shouldn’t wear sandals to your skydiving session. I guess if you plan to actually land on your feel you’ll need some arch support. Also, most places will not let you skydive with your dog. I know. Rover’s really been bugging you to take him skydiving. Sorry. Maybe some other time.

See? We just made some lemonade out of the lemony discovery of finding out that the internet is not (SHOCKER) always right. If you know more laws about skydiving, be sure to leave them in the comments. And…happy jumping!

If you’re a pig breeder and plan on moving to Florida, which is strange enough, make sure you bring big cages. The reason to do so is that, animal cruelty being an important issue to Florida citizens, it is illegal to house a pregnant pig in an enclosure that prevents them from turning around freely. Doing so is considered “cruel and inhumane confinement.”

The purpose of the law is not weird in and of itself, but rather what is strange about the law is that it only refers to pregnant pigs. Shouldn’t other farm animals, pregnant or not, get the same right? What is it about pigs that makes them so special? Obviously nothing once they’re done with the pregnancy because then the law doesn’t apply to them anymore.

Actually, I can’t think of a scenario where I’ve seen a cage so small that the animal couldn’t turn around in so I wonder if this has ever even been a problem. It’s not as if it’s a huge problem to make cages that are a couple feet bigger. Crazy Florida people.
